When: Saturday, November 21, 2009 10:00 AM Location: Mysterious Galaxy Description: America Unchained ... A Day We Want You to Think About
Sometimes seemingly small acts can make a big impact. Take family spending. You may think you’re just fulfilling your family's wants or needs when you shop or dine out. Think again. The choice of where you spend your money makes a big difference to your community. Spending your money with locally-owned independent businesses puts your money to work directly helping your community’s economy — just one way your community benefits from its home town businesses. Those businesses use goods and services of other locally-owned independent businesses — re-circulating your money about three-and-a-half times longer locally than if you spend it at a chain. This creates greater community health and prosperity.
To celebrate America Unchained: visit Mysterious Galaxy on Saturday, November 21 and receive a gift with purchase. You'll have to come in to see what's in store for you.

Soulless: An Alexia Tarabotti Novel
by
Carriger, Gail
Do you like urban fantasy? Do you like Regency and Victorian romances? If so, you can look forward to this new series debut starring Alexia Tarabotti! Alexia has no soul and, even worse, is a spinster on the shelf. Why is that? Well, her father is Italian and dead, her skin is darker than acceptable and she has a largish nose, not to mention the soulless condition which is unknown except for a few. Being soulless is the opposite of being supernatural. In Alexia's London, there are vampires, werewolves and ghosts. The story starts with Alexia accidentally killing a vampire who had the bad taste to attack her at a private party. The vampire was not only badly dressed but seemed to have no idea who or what Alexia was. An investigation begins by Lord Maccon, who is in charge of supernatural happenings, and is also the head of the Woolsey pack of werewolves. This book is a lot of fun and, like the author, Lord Akeldama would be my favorite character to have to tea, so flamboyant but so knowledgeable! Look for this one now.

Nine Dragons
by
Connelly, Michael
LAPD Detective Harry Bosch is off the chain in the fastest, fiercest, and highest-stakes case of his life. Fortune Liquors is a small shop in a tough South L.A. neighborhood, a store Bosch has known for years. The murder of John Li, the store's owner, hits Bosch hard, and he promises Li's family that he'll find the killer. The world Bosch steps into next is unknown territory. He brings in a detective from the Asian Gang Unit for help with translation--not just of languages but also of the cultural norms and expectations that guided Li's life. He uncovers a link to a Hong Kong triad, a lethal and far-reaching crime ring that follows many immigrants to their new lives in the U.S. And instantly his world explodes. The one good thing in Bosch's life, the person he holds most dear, is taken from him and Bosch travels to Hong Kong in an all-or-nothing bid to regain what he's lost. In a place known as Nine Dragons, as the city's Hungry Ghosts festival burns around him, Bosch puts aside everything he knows and risks everything he has in a desperate bid to outmatch the triad's ferocity. |
